Bonjyotsna promises help for
Assam’s music industry
Guwahati,
June 17: Not dented by the criticism of the groovy gurus in
the recent episodes of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa -Ek Me Aur Ek Tu,
Assam’s very own Bonjyotsna Borgohain today promised to
work on her shortcomings while appealing votes through SMS
in the Mega Finals slated to be held on June 24 next.
Her
singing partner Sharib in the reality show also accompanied
Bonjyotsna.
Bonjyotsna
while interacting with the media this afternoon said that
she is thankful to the people of Assam who have showered
support to the singing duo during the course of the show.
“I
want to bring pride for the people of Assam. God willing, if
we are chosen as the number one Jodi then I would definitely
love to do something for the music industry of Assam”,
opined Bonjyotsna.
When
asked, the local lass admitted that Debojit Saha’s craze
has boosted her confidence. “His success worked as an
inspiration for me”, she pointed out.
Meanwhile,
Sharib who is making his first visit to Assam said that he
is completely bowled over by the greenery of the State.
“Everything is so natural about Assam and its people”,
said a visibly astounded Sharib who hails from Rajasthan.
While
thanking the music lovers of Assam for their support, Sharib
said it feels so homely to be in Assam.
Sharib also amused the gathering with a welcome
Rajasthani song.
Earlier,
the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today welcomed the
duo with grand convoy from the LGB Airport to the Shahid
Nyas.
The
duo apart from visiting SOS children village also visited
Bonjyotsna’s school Ascent Academy on the way to the Nyas.
Representatives
of AASU, Asom Sena and All Assam Photographers’
Association also felicitate the duo during the function.
Banjyotsna & Sharib score over Ujjaini & Aishwarya this week
The
zone wise voting trends from India this week have
Sharib/Banjyotsna leading in three regions out of five. They
also had Saat Phere lead actor Sharad
Kelkar cheer them through out the
shoot.
Last week, though both the jodis
had received equal support from viewers all over India,
Sharib/Banjyotsna performance was lacking in many respects.
On last Friday’s episode, they
were grilled very harshly by the Groovy Gurus and the guest
judges Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet with every song that they
performed. They found fault in their voice modulation, not
matching notes and also pointed out that they failed to
understand the essence of the song.
But, this criticism only made
Sharib/Banjyotsna work harder on their weaknesses and win
approval from the Groovy Gurus. Their improved performances
this week got them better rankings than Ujjaini/Aishwarya.
Ujjaini became emotional in the
second round after the Groovy Gurus did not give
them high rankings. And, this
affected her performance in the last round. That is when
Leslie Lewis reminded them of how Sharib/Banjyotsna had
bounced back despite getting very strong and angry reactions
from the judges last week.
Lewis said to Ujjaini, “You have
let your emotions overpower your focus in singing well. You
have not come up to the standard of your previous
performances.”
Hariharan also commented on this
saying, “You do not lose when you are down, but, when you do
not get up, that is when you lose.” Both Ujaaini/Aishwarya
promised not to fail the judges.
But Ujjaini/Aishwarya got
surprising support from Kelkar who very sportingly asked them
not to lose heart as even their so called average performances
had the strength to make anyone take notice of them.
Vote For Bonjyotsna
and Sharib : ASSU
Guwahati, June 6: After going all
out to help Debojit Saha win the coveted title of “Voice of India” on Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, a reality show, the All Assam
Students’ Union (AASU) and the North East Students’ Organisation (Neso) today joined hands to
give a boost to Bonjyotsna Borgohain.
The AASU and Neso openly appealed to the people of the region to
vote passionately for the teenage singing talent from the city to win Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Ek
Main Aur Ek Tu contest, along with her partner Sharib from Jaipur.
The Bonjyotsna-Sharib duo, along with Ujjaini-Ashwariya, are the
only two couples left in the final leg of the contest. The finals will be held in Dubai on
June 24. And the voting lines will be open till the morning of June 24.
“Since this is a contest that needs people’s voting, I request
all to vote for Bonjoytsna to help her repeat Debojit’s success,” said AASU adviser Samujjal
Bhattacharyya at a news conference at Swahid Niyas.
“This young girl has won everyone’s hearts with her talent. Now
she is on a stage where she needs our support,” explained Bhattacharyya. Echoing him, Neso
secretary N.N.S. Lotha appealed to the people of the region to vote in a united manner to help
Bonjoytsna win the contest.
He added, “As we’re talking about the political unity of the
Northeast, let us first get united musically. Talents like Bonjoytsna and Debojit need the support
of the people of the region to indirectly help us get united.”
Bonjyotsna’s mother Thunu Borgohain, who was present at the
meet, appealed to all to vote for her daughter, who has been musically inclined since she was a child.
“My daughter has put her heart and soul into winning the
contest. She can fulfil her dreams only with the people’s support,” said Thunu, a resident of Beltola
Chariali.
Kishore Dev, a member of the Debojit Fan Club at Silchar, also
requested the people to display the same amount of enthusiasm and vote for Bonjyotsna. Kishore had
come to the city from Silchar to specially request people to vote for her.
Bonjyotsna, who was in the city last month, has also sent her
request to the people of the region to vote for her.
Though the AASU and the Neso have entered the campaign to help
Bonjyotsna win the contest a bit late in the day, members of the students’ unions claimed that
they have left no stone unturned to help Bonjyotsna win.

Another Assam singer
on the ascendant

Guwahati, May 29: Singers
from Assam are hitting the right note in the country’s
entertainment capital, Mumbai.
After Zubeen Garg and
Debojit Saha, 18-year-old Bonjyotsna Borgohain from
Guwahati is on the threshold of a rewarding career in
tinsel town with television playing her mentor.
Bonjyotsna, a student in
Mumbai, has just entered the last stage of Zee TV’s Sa
Re Ga Ma Pa-Ek Main Aur Ek Tu contest along with Sharib
from Jaipur. Both are disciples of Leslie Lewis, whose
Colonial Cousins is the most original fusion band in the
country.
Although she has not
generated the kind of mass hysteria in Assam that Debojit
did when he competed in the first edition of the same
reality show, Bonjyotsna has become a household name and
fan clubs have been formed in several parts of the state.
During a visit to Guwahati
two weeks ago, the amiable singer said she did not want
people to vote for her through SMS or telephone calls to a
specific number just because she hailed from Assam. “I
want the people to listen to my songs and then decide. I
don’t want votes just because I am there.”
That, however, did not stop
Bonjyotsna’s family from making fervent appeals to music
lovers to vote for her just the way they did for Debojit,
making him the “Voice of India”.
Her mother, Thunu Borgohain,
said at a news conference on Saturday that Bonjyotsna and
Sharib were lagging behind — in third position — by
over two lakh votes and required Assam’s support to
advance to the next level.
The next round, to be
telecast on Thursday and Friday, will see one of the three
remaining groups eliminated.
“I request the people to
vote for Bonjyotsna, just as we all voted for Debojit, and
give her an opportunity to bring laurels to the state,”
she said.
Bonjyotsna, who was a
participant in the Voice of India contest, too, began
learning singing when she was just four.
Over the next 14 years, she
won several contests, including a recent talent hunt
organised by a New Delhi-based organisation at the
Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The elder of two children
— she has a brother — Bonjyotsna has found a strong
backer in the Youth Congress. Just as the All Assam
Students Union campaigned for Debojit, the Youth Congress
intends to support Bonjyotsna all the way. “We are
conducting a poster campaign and organising motorbike
rallies to seek votes for her,” D. Bayan, president of
the Guwahati Youth Congress unit, said.
Bonjyotsna’s father, Ratul
Borgohain, is an IOC employee. The family’s roots are in
Sivasagar.
