Dental Education in India
Dentistry
is the next option for the students when they do
not get a MBBS seat. Though there are many
students who opt for this course, this program
is always a secondary choice for students. The
BDS course is the basic undergraduate course
that has to be taken up. To enter in to this
program, students should take up difficult
entrance exams. The marks of their higher
secondary exams and the marks of the entrance
exams will be taken in to account. Based on
this, the students will be given the cut-off
marks. Then, the students will be admitted in
various government and private colleges. This is
the pattern, which is followed every year.
The students have
to prepare extremely well to take up the
entrance exams. Only few students get government
college seats and others have to go in for the
option of private colleges, in which the fee
structure is high. It may cost up to several
lakhs to pursue Dental education in private
colleges. Entrance exams like the DUMET, CBSE,
TNPCEE, PMT and BCECE are conducted every
successive year to select students for
admission. Almost 20,000 students pass out of
the dental colleges every year. There are
reasonable numbers of Dental colleges in India
and most of the students get a seat either in a
government-aided college or in a private sector.
After completing the under graduation program,
students have to pursue higher education in
order to specialize in the field. This would
include the Masters in the Dental Surgery.
Various
subjects like Endodontics, pharmacology,
physiology, anatomy, pathology, pedodontics and
general medicine are covered in the syllabus
giving them the right exposure in this field at
the very basic level. In the long run, this
field is about to boom like many other famous
fields and now students are paying more and more
attention to the BDS course. The students have
bright future and can pursue their higher
education in India, as the education standards
are equal to the foreign standards. The
recognition gained by the Indian Dental Colleges
is so high, wherein students from abroad opt to
study here. |
