MCA Education in India
Today, computers have dominated the whole world. An MCA degree
in an age of computers will have excellent job opportunities in
IT companies with an attractive salary package. Master of
Computer Application (MCA) is a post graduate program in
‘Computer Application Stream ‘in India. Its curriculum
emphasizes on the development of different types of application
software rather than designing computer hardware and systems
software. It covers a large variety of topics primarily in
computer programming and designing fields.
Generally it takes three academic years to pursue a full time
MCA program. Those who want to pursue a career in software, MCA
course is a good option for them. Today there are more than 1000
institutions in India that provides MCA courses with an intake
of more than 55000 students annually.
The colleges or institutes that offer MCA courses require a
bachelor degree in any stream with Mathematics as a subject at
plus two levels. But there are institutes which require
graduates particularly from any field of computer science like
Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA). In some other institutes
admission to such courses is through written tests with its
selection based entirely on group discussion or an interview. A
number of NITs offer these course for the benefit of the
students i.e., NIT (Allahabad, Durgapur, Surathkal, Calicut,
Bhopal etc). In order to avail such opportunity one need to take
an entrance test. NIMCET is the national level entrance test for
admission to MCA. AIMCET is an all India MCA common Entrance
test, organized by IIT (Roorkee) intends to admit on an all
India basis.
The entrance tests are generally based on Mathematics and
reasoning, purely objective in nature. The duration of the test
is 2-3hours.There is negative marking for wrong answer too. As
the syllabi for the entrance test differs between institutes, it
becomes difficult to have an integrated approach for its
preparation. However the candidate needs to be good at
Mathematics, Statistics and knowledge of computer would be an
added advantage.
