Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP)

The central university of Himachal Pradesh always endeavor towards excellence in higher education and research so that they can emerge as one of the prominent university of the country. Central University of Himachal Pradesh is at par with the best universities of the world in terms of Programme offerings, research, publications, pedagogy, curricular framework and integration. Central University of Himachal Pradesh has two campuses, one at Dehra and Dharamshala both the campus located in the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. Central University of Himachal Pradesh was established under the central universities act 2009 of Indian Parliament. President of the country is a visitor of the university. On 15 August 2007, our Prime Minister announced for the establishment of Central University in each state where a central university is not available so far.

Dharamshala campus is nearest to the airport Gaggal that is about 20 minutes away from Dharmashala. Nearest railway station, to the campus is at Pathankot, which takes about 2 hours by road. Dehra campus is an hour away from the airport and three hours away from road. Dhera campus can also be reached from Chandigarh that takes about four hours by road.

Prime objective behind establishment of central university is:

• To circulate advance knowledge to learners by offering instructional and research facilities in each branches of learning
• To provide special provisions for incorporated courses in social sciences, sciences, technology and humanities in its educational courses
• To take suitable measures for encouraging creativity in teaching and learning process and inter disciplinary research and studies
• To train and teach human resource for the growth and prosperity of the country
• To build connection with several industries for enhancing science and technology
• To concentrate towards the improvement of economic and social welfare of the people and also focus towards academic, cultural and intellectual development
