Master of Computer Application (MCA) is primarily a three year
post graduate program in Computer Science in India. Its
curriculum strives on the development of different types of
application software and not designing computer hardware as well
as systems software. It covers a large variety of topics
primarily in computer programming and designing fields. Students
seeking admissions to MCA course are basically trained in the
different field of Application Software Development, Systems
Designing, Enterprise Resource Planning, Web Designing and
Development System Administration, Computer Networks, Database
Administration, Parallel Data Mining and Warehousing, etc.
A candidate with MCA degree can take up different position in
the IT market namely system analysts, Programmers, system
designers and managers. This course gives equal emphasis on
theoretical and practical classes. A large number of
universities and training institutes in India and abroad offers
this course with a lot of flexibility for the betterment of the
student community. The Directorate of Distance Education of
different universities offers this course to students, dropouts,
working professionals who are unable to attend the regular
classes by fulfilling their educational needs.
The colleges or institutes that offer MCA courses require a
bachelor degree in any stream with Mathematics as a subject at
plus two levels. But there are institutes which require
graduates particularly from any field of computer science like
Bachelor in Computer Application. In some other institutes
admission to such courses is through written tests with its
selection based entirely on group discussion or an interview.
In order to avail such opportunity one need to take an entrance
test. The entrance tests are generally based on Mathematics and
reasoning, purely objective in nature. However the candidate
needs to be good at Mathematics, Statistics and knowledge of
computer would be an added advantage.
