Purvanchal University, renamed as the Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, for honouring late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, who was the ex-Chief Minister of state. It was recognized on October 2 1987 as the affiliating university in the Uttar Pradesh University Act 1973.
