The foundation of the B. R. Ambedkar University (formerly known
as the Agra University) was put down on July 1 1927, as result
of the confused efforts of band of the excited educationists
like Munshi Narain Prasad Asthana, Rev. Canon A.W. Davis, Dr
L.P. Mathur, Rai Bahadur Anand Swaroop, Lala Dewan Chand, and Dr
Brajendra Swaroop,. Original jurisdiction of the University
completed over the United Provinces in Agra, Rajputana, and
Central India with 14 associated colleges with 2530 students.
In the 1996, the University was given a new name of Dr. B. R.
Ambedkar University. The University now provides to educational
requirement of seven districts in Agra Division Aligarh,
Mainpuri, Agra, Hathras, Mathura, Firozabad, and Etah. In
addition, University is arrogant of having allied to it, the
Sarojini Naidu Medical College that is amongst oldest and
leading Medical Institutes in the country. Presently, the
university is having approx 200 allied colleges as well as 15
residential institutions spread out within its four housing
campus, Khandari Campus, Paliwal Park, Chhaleshar Campus, and
Civil Lines Campus.
The University is increasingly surging ahead like centre of the
superior scientific vocational as well as job oriented
innovative research and education. The objective of University
is becoming innovated in field of the education and becoming the
centre of superiority both nationally as well as
internationally. University is not restricted to impart the
quality education however also to gratify burning wish of
students that are exploring learning attitude and creative
intellect of the students. University is making each attempt to
complete spirit of the University slogan "Tamso Ma Jyotirgamay"
meaning, moving from the darkness to the light.
