Education in India
Education is one of the most powerful tool for ensuring access
to quality education for all, reducing poverty, inequality, to
enhance India’s competitiveness in the global economy,
strengthening economic stability and nurturing social
development of India.
Education in India is totally under the control of the central
and state government, with few under the supervision of private
sectors. The education system in India is divided into different
levels and the standard of education in India is coordinated,
determined and maintained at various levels by the United Grants
Commission, Govt. of India. It is the largest and prominent
organization to regulate the processes of educational
development in India. Also the National Council of Educational
Research and Training looks after the curriculum related matters
for school education, provides support and technically assists
schools as well as oversees the enforcement of education
policies in India. The articles of the Indian Constitution
provides for education as a fundamental right.
At present there are huge number of colleges, state
universities, central universities, deemed universities and
national institutions in India for catering to the educational
requirements of the country. Distance learning is a special
feature of Indian Education System. A large number of courses
and programmes are provided to students from different nook and
corners of the country and abroad through its distance mode
thereby fulfilling the desires of higher education of some
special category of students who are deprived of traditional
class room teaching at an affordable fee. The Sarva Shiksha
Abhiyan (Universalization of Education for All) is one of the
largest education initiatives in the world.
Today education in India has gained world recognition. It is
mainly due to changes in the syllabus, use of modern
infrastructures, introduction of new courses, teachers with
adequate training, dynamic methodologies, low cost of tuitions
compared to the western countries etc. Due to this unbelievable
success in the educational scenario, students from South Africa,
Canada, Germany, China, Australia, France, UK and USA are eyeing
the country for gaining higher qualifications.
