North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Courses

NEHU (North-Eastern Hill University) was recognized by the Act of Parliament as well as informed on 19 July 1973. The objectives of North-Eastern Hill University, the same as laid down in act, are "for disseminating as well as advancing the knowledge through providing instructional as well as research facilities for such branches of learning because it may consider fit; to pay particular attention for improvement of social as well as economic conditions and the welfare of people of hill areas of North-eastern region or in particular, academic, intellectual, and cultural advancement".

Now there are 53-undergraduate colleges associated to University including the eight professional colleges. University Central Library and its membership consist of college and university teachers, undergraduate and postgraduate honors students as well as members of non- teaching staff is the collection of nearly 38,000 bound periodicals, 2, 00,000 books, and it promises to 316 foreign as well as 366 Indian existing journals.

The students of this University have done very well in life later than leaving this University. A lot of have been taken to Banking Services, Central Civil Services, or into University System. Numerous have been given fellowships and scholarships by both national as well as foreign organizations. The percentage of the University students clearing GATE, NET, and other nationwide tests is very high. Number of students doing their Master's degrees as well as the research students doing their Ph.D. and M.Phil degrees is nearly 1700. The undergraduate colleges associated to this University enrolled around 18,000 students. The University faculty strength is more than 300. In the short span of around 30 years, the NEHU (North-Eastern Hill University) has turned into the institution having serious social & academic cultural agenda with the clear vision of its future growth.
