Dr. Hari Singh Gour University Courses
Dr. Hari singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, previously known as the
University of Saugar, was recognized on 18 July 1946 through Dr.
Hari Singh Gour using his lifetime saving. University of Madhya
Pradesh is perhaps the only distinction of being established by
the generosity of one single person's well-merited money of
around 2-Crore rupees.
The University is positioned 5 km eastern of the Sagar city and
the campus is increased on the 830.3 hectares on top of the
Patharia hills. It is amongst the finest scenic campuses of
India. It is having 36 University departments, 10 faculties with
81 affiliated colleges coating 6 revenue districts in Madhya
Pradesh. There are 2 hostels for girls and 4 hostels for boys.
Facilities like State Bank of India branch, STD booth, Post
office, University Hospital, Employment & Guidance Bureau, 3
canteens, University Press, and one shopping complex offer
supporting services within the campus. Jawaharlal Nehru Library
in the University is having over 3, 00,000 books. There are 26
departments, which have their personal departmental libraries.
Apart from the usual degree, post graduate or research courses,
courses like Pharmacy, Geology, Anthropology, Criminology and
Forensic Science, Performing Arts, Adult Education, Journalism
and Mass Communication, Electronics, Microbiology, Business
Management, Computer Applications, and Biotechnology are there,
which magnetize lots of students from around the country. The
University is also having Institute of Distance Education for
running different Correspondence Courses like B.Lib. M.Lib.Sc.,
BJ (C), MC(J), PG Diploma in Criminology & Police
Administration, and PG Diploma in the Environmental Marketing &
Personnel Management.
The University has awarded over 3,000 PhD, 37 D.Litt. and 4 D.Sc
Degrees so far. Several former students of this University have
brought enormous glory through distinguishing themselves within
their selected fields within and exterior to the country.
