BHU BA/MA Courses
The Banaras Hindu University ranks amongst the top varsities in
the world. It was founded by the great visionary Pt.Madan Mohan
Malviya more than 90 years ago; the BHU has today come to be
known as a great citadel of learning. In a survey jointly
conducted by IndiaToday-Neilsen, the BHU has been ranked no.1 in
the particular field of academic research and training. With two
campuses, 0ver 130 departments, 5 most advanced centers of
learning and 3 institutes, the BHU has and continues to impart
valuable education in the fields of Science, Social Science,
Technology, Agriculture, Medicine etc. the University offers a
conducive environment for learning and innovation and encourages
best international practices as well as promotes creativity
through its programs.
The university also offers Bachelor of Arts (Honors) and Master
of Arts as regular courses. More on these courses as follows. A
candidate can choose from a range of electives leading to the
degree in both the courses.
For the Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) a candidate should have secured
a minimum of 50% marks at the 10+2 level of a recognized
education board. For candidates belonging to reserved category
the minimum percent of marks required is 45%.
To be eligible for the Master of Arts, a candidate has to secure
a minimum of 50% marks in the relevant subject under the 10+2+3
pattern. The relaxation in qualifying marks is 45% for students
belonging to reserved category students.
Admission to the course is subject to the candidate passing the
BHU’s entrance test and fulfilling the above criteria.
The duration of the B.A. (Hons.) course is three years (6
semesters) and that of M.A is 2 years (4 semesters). Admission
to both the courses is given based on an entrance examination
conducted by the BHU. Application forms can be obtained from the
University office in person or by post.
