University of Madras Courses
The University of Madras which is more popularly known as the
Madras University was established in 1857 based on the
Legislative council of India Act on 4th September 1857. The
University is one of the oldest serving leading Universities in
South India and is also a member of the Association of Indian
Universities (AIU). The Governor of Tamil Nadu is the Chancellor
of the Madras University that offers research oriented programs
in about 4 campuses in Tamil Nadu. The University Grants
Commission has recognized the Madras University as one of the
centers with “Potential for Excellence” in the country. The
University of Madras has also been accredited with the five star
rating by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)
and later on received the ‘A’ rating from NAAC as well.
Eligibility Criteria:
The University of Madras offers variety of post graduate degree
and diploma courses along with research and doctoral level
courses. A candidate seeking admission to the PG courses offered
by the Madras University needs to hold a Bachelor’s degree in
the respective elective subject that is from a reputed or
recognized University with an aggregate of 50% marks. A
candidate seeking admission to the MBA or MCA program of the
University will need to possess a bachelor’s degree in any
discipline that is either from the Madras University or from any
other recognized University by the Syndicate.
Admission Procedure:
Any candidate seeking admission to the MBA or MCA program will
be given admission based on the rank that he or she scores in
the Tamil Nadu Common entrance Test (TANCET) conducted by Anna
University. The candidates who seek admission for the M Phil
courses offered by the University will be selected on the basis
of marks obtained in the entrance test that the University
