Jiwaji University is said to be one of the best Residential University in India and it was established in the year 1964 on 23rd May. The University of Jiwaji was established under the provision of M. P. Government regulation as an education and affiliating University. The jurisdiction of this University holds about six districts of Chambal and Gwalior Division; the six districts include Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Shivpuri, Guna, and Datia. In the beginning, the University had nearly 29 affiliated colleges and after gradual development, now it holds about 100 affiliated colleges and research centres.

Apart from regular under graduate, post graduate and research studies, this University also offers many special degree courses and programs. One of such special academic course is post-graduate Diploma Course in tourism which is completely job oriented course. And most of its special programs are greatly appreciated among students, the reason for this is that the University always designs its special courses depending on the needs and demands of the industrial world. The Jiwaji University also offers academic courses in foreign languages, such as diploma and certificate courses in English, French, German and Russian which makes the students eligible for international competitions.

The central Library of the University is another center of attraction as it holds about 1,40,000 books and more than 8000 of research journals, presentations, thesis and it also subscribe about 142 Indian and Foreign journals. Apart from all these features, this hi-tech library also has Internet access, 16-mm projector, microfilm reader, and a good collection of films for students from media department.
